The Thermal Spa in Ovcha Kupel

The building from 1933 has a unique architecture, designed by the famous architect Georgi Ovcharov. The place is part of a spa complex, surrounded by a large park with over 100 species of trees and bushes, some of which are rarely cultivated in Bulgaria and in a list of plants under special protection.

The majestic architecture of the building skillfully unites both the spirit and the dignity of The Kingdom of  Bulgaria. However, the thermal Spa, which is currently a cultural monument, is not just a building. The thermal water with exceptional, scientifically proven healing properties gushes from the bowels of the earth beneath it.

They call it “live water.” According to experts, its temperature is not too high, which allows it to be used by people with chronic complaints, as well as healthy people to prevent pathologies of the musculoskeletal system, peripheral nervous system, orthopedic and traumatic diseases.

The water of the mineral spring has a temperature of 30-4-C and is curative for rheumatism, nervous disorders, endocrine disorders, diabetes.

The building worked as a bathroom until the 80’s of the 20th century, after which it was closed and abandoned.

Partially affected by fire, the building today is a sadly abandoned treasure.

The situation inside is desperate – completely collapsed roofs, broken porches, broken windows, crumbling walls and constant raids by suspicious people. Among the archives, once housed on the top floor, now scattered on the floors of the vast rooms, we find a huge amount of specialized literature and infinitely long lists of names of patients from around the world who came for treatment here …
