The Building of a Former Sofia State Notary
This is one of the most representative and elegant buildings in the historic center of the capital.
It was designed by arch. Petko Momchilov for his brother – Eng. Mikhail Momchilov and his wife – Baroness Filipina von Uslar – Gleichen.
It was built in 1899. and this is probably the most successful Bulgarian project for a residential building from the end of the 19th century.
Its style is a variant of the late Mediterranean renaissance. The entrance is very representative, the building has glazed verandas, winter gardens and balconies.
In 1938 the house was sold to the German legation, which settled at this address.
After 1944 the Soviet trade mission is housed here and the opulent furniture completely disappeared in an unknown direction.
In 1978 the building has been declared a cultural monument of national importance.
Now the building is abandoned, uninhabited and unmaintained.
